Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Maddie Lee scored 22.5 points to lead Whitworth to a 3-1 win over visiting Pacific Lutheran on Saturday night in a Northwest Conference volleyball match, giving the Pirates (3-0) a weekend sweep of the Lutes (2-2).
Lee finished with 17 kills, three service aces and 2.5 blocks to lead the Bucs to the 25-22, 25-23, 14-25, 25-15 victory. She also had 14 digs.
Trailing 21-18 in the opening set, Whitworth closed on a 7-1 run for the early lead. Akon A'leu had four kills and two block assists, while Kaity Barr had three kills and three block assists for the Pirates in the set.
Lee dominated the second set with nine kills and two aces, leading Whitworth to a .282 hitting percentage in the frame.
PLU, which had two starters out in Friday night's five set loss to the Bucs, rebounded to roll to an easy victory in the third set. The Lutes had five blocks in that set and forced Whitworth into a -.132 hitting percentage.
The Pirates grabbed momentum right back by jumping out to a big early lead in the final stanza. Barr's service ace made the score 16-4 and Whitworth was able to cruise in from there.
Barr finished with 15 points for the Pirates on eight kills, five blocks and a pair of aces. A'leu added 12 points with 11 kills and two block assists. Saylor Anderson dished 24 assists and had 12 digs, while Joelle Forbes had 15 assists and three aces. Whitworth finished the match with a dozen aces.
Baylee Johnson led PLU with 14.5 points (11 kills, 3.5 blocks). Lauren Wilson finished with nine kills.
Whitworth will stay at home and host Whitman in a pair of NWC matches next weekend.
