WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Carthage College outscored Whitworth 7-0 in the second quarter and turned that advantage into a 12-7 win over Whitworth in a non-conference women's lacrosse match played at Whitman College on Friday night.

The Firebirds (5-1) led 9-1 at halftime and 11-1 early in the third quarter before the Pirates (1-3) stormed back to within 11-7 with eight minutes left in the match.

Peyton Green scored three goals for Whitworth, while Keira Paulus, Campbell Vincent and Sierra Witte all had one goal and one assist.

Augie Claridge had four goals and one assist for Carthage, while Kelsey O'Brien had three goals and Kyleigh Higgins posted two goals and two assists.

Carthage outshot Whitworth 27-14, including a 17-8 advantage in shots on-goal.  They had a 15-4 edge in shots at halftime.  The Firebirds won 13 of the 20 draw controls. 

Kayla Jones played the first half in goal for the Pirates, allowing 7 goals.  Charlotte Norton took over at halftime and made 10 saves while allowing five goals.

Whitworth will play at Eastern Oregon on Saturday afternoon.
