SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University lacrosse season gets underway officially this week with a season opening match at Whitman College on Friday night at 5:00 pm. Family and fans, please note that the Northwest Conference entered into an agreement with FloCollege to stream all conference-member athletic contests. There is a subscription fee to watch the games.
The Pirates are coming off a 7-7 record in 2025 when they finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with Linfield and Lewis & Clark at 4-4 in the NWC. Whitworth did not hold the tiebreaker and missed out on the NWC tournament.
"It is definitely motivation for this team to be a part of the NWC tournament this year and be in control of our destiny instead of leaving it to a tie breaker," said head coach Noelle Brouillard, now in her eighth season. "This group of upper classmen is very ready to come back stronger and confident in what we need to do to get there."
The Pirates return a core group of players who have competed together for two or three, including four players who bring back All-NWC recognition.
Campbell Vincent, a junior who is rewriting the Whitworth record book, leads a veteran group of attackers. Vincent earned second team All-NWC recognition in 2025 after leading the Bucs in scoring, while setting a single-season record for goals and points.
Fellow junior Kenison Turner and sophomore Peyton Green have starting experience in attack. First-year Rose Frezza could see action up front as well.
Sierra Witte and Megan Whitman, a pair of seniors, are the top-returning midfielders. Starters since 2023, Witte and Whitman each earned honorable mention All-NWC honors last season. Nikki Beers is a third senior with significant playing experience, along with junior Keira Paulus. Jordyn Bennet saw plenty of playing time as a first-year in 2024 before studying abroad last spring.
Senior Amelie Deese will anchor the defense after picking up honorable mention consideration in 2025. Fellow senior Mary Penfield, along with juniors Claire Baker and Sedona Liming, have starting experience on defense as well. First-year Olivia Flickner could push for playing time, or even a starting role.
Kayla Jones and Charlotte Norton, both sophomores, are in a neck and neck battle to take over as the starting goalkeeper in 2026, according to Brouillard.
With so many returning players, it might be easy for observers to overlook the incoming Pirates. Brouillard believes the new group can make an immediate impact.
"They bring competitiveness, drive, and a lot of experience in their position groups. They are extremely hard workers," she said.
Whitworth plays a very competitive schedule in 2026. The Pirates will take on midwestern opponents Carthage and Kalamzoo, along with three opponents from California: Chapman, Occidental and Cal Lutheran. Whitworth also plays NWC title contenders George Fox, Willamette and Whitman in non-conference matches.
"Being successful this season means holding nothing back," Brouillard states. "There is so much talent in this team and I want everyone to see that each time we step onto the field."
