Pirate men close out fall season in sixth place

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitworth University men closed out their fall golf schedule with a sixth-place finish at the Confluence Classic, hosted by Whitman College on Sunday and Monday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course and at Wine Valley Golf Course.

The Pirates' B team finished in eighth place.  Host Whitman won the tournament by 18 strokes.

The final team scores were Whitman 569 (-7), Puget Sound 587, George Fox 589, Pacific Lutheran 590, Pacific (Ore.) 596, Whitworth 604, Whitman (B) 616, Whitworth (B) 631, PLU (B) 640, George Fox (B) 641.

Whitman's Grady Brown was the individual champion with a score of 67-73 – 140 (-4). 

Peyton Simonds led Whitworth by tying for 15th place.  He shot 77-72 – 149 to improve by six places from Sunday to Monday.  Andy Hobson posted a 76-74 – 150 to tie for 19th place.

Matthew Durkin (76-75 – 151) finished 24th and Kallen Maioho (79-75 – 154) tied for 29th.  Cooper Smith (79-79 – 158) tied for 34th.

Elijah Clendening led the Pirate B team in a tie for 31st place after shooting 80-75 – 155.
