SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women's tennis hosts Lewis-Clark State this weekend in a non-conference tune up for the NWC tournament.
Check the scheduling page for live links to scores and match updates.
The Pirates: Whitworth (9-7, 4-3 NWC) wrapped up its conference slate last weekend with a loss to George Fox, and the Pirates will have a chance to be the fourth seed in the NWC tournament. They will await the outcomes of Pacific, George Fox, Linfield, and Lewis & Clark this weekend to determine their final standing.
Whitworth played LC State in Lewiston in early February, they lost the match but will have a chance to measure their improvement at home in the regular season finale. The Pirates missed the conference tournament last season, but qualified the year before that. If they were to make it in, they'd likely be up against top-seeded Whitman (13-7, 6-0 NWC) who they lost to 8-1 on March 2.
The Opponent: Lewis-Clark State (6-18) has won three of its last four including an 8-1 win over George Fox on Saturday. The Warriors record is somewhat deceiving, they've taken on several Division I schools including Montana, Montana State, Idaho, Boise State, and even some ranked Division III schools on a trip to Kentucky. LC State is led by Maria Silva (11-6) and Yelena Kim (10-8). Whitworth is 0-5 against LC State all-time, the Warriors are coached by Kai Fong who's in his 36th season with the program.
Looking ahead: Whitworth will await the NWC results this weekend to figure out their final standing.
