WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The visiting Whitworth Pirates were eliminated from the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with a 4-0 seminal loss to top-seeded Whitman on Friday morning.
The Pirates finished the season 10-10 overall (7-7 NWC), while the Blues (21-3, 13-1 NWC), advanced to the tournament final on Saturday. The NWC playoff matches are played until a match win is claimed (four points), and Whitman secured its victory with the first four match wins.
Clara Todd and Jordan Turner-Esposito fell 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles match followed by a 6-1 Whitman win in the No. 3 match over Olivia Corbett and Audrey Judson. The Blues clinched the win with wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches. Sascha Wells earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Corbett in the No. 6 position before Jin Yu defeated Turner-Esposito 6-2, 6-1 to end the match.
The Pirate women will return to action next fall.
