The Pirates: Whitworth (3-4, 1-1 NWC) is coming off an odd weekend where they lost to Whitman on Saturday before sweeping CC of Spokane 9-0 on Sunday in an exhibition match.

The Pirates lost 8-1 to Whitman, their only point coming off #3 Oliver Paige and Audrey Judson's doubles win over Whitman's Erica Mock and Sascha Wells. The top duo of Clara Todd and Gracie Smyley lost narrowly 8-7 (7-2). In singles, the only match to go three sets was between #4 Jordan Esposito-Turner and Whitman's #4 Arianna Castellanos, but Castellanos won 6-4, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). The loss snapped a three-match win streak for the Pirates, they'll look to get back on track this weekend.

Smyley currently leads the team with a 3-2 individual record, Todd and Turner-Esposito are each 2-2 and Paige sits at 2-3 with all her matches played in the #2 slot. Whitworth is 15-14 in singles matches this season, and 9-6 in doubles which was a point of focus in the off-season.

The Opponents: Linfield (2-3, 1-1 NWC) split its conference openers last weekend with a 9-0 win at Willamette and an 8-1 loss to George Fox at home. The Wildcats number one is Sarah Forester (1-4) and the #2 has been Emma Tuttle (3-2), that duo is 2-3 in doubles. Alexis Garner and Kaitlynn Canubida are 4-1 as a doubles team in the #2 spot. Linfield is 12-18 in singles this season and 8-7 in doubles matches. The 'Cats are coached by Tessa Kern who's in her second season at the helm. Linfield had won five straight NWC titles until Whitman broke that streak last season.

Lewis & Clark (3-5, 1-1 NWC) had the same weekend as Linfield, just in reverse order. The Pioneers lost 8-1 to George Fox on Saturday but beat Willamette 9-0 on Sunday. The Pioneers have a strong top duo led by Susanna Anand who's 6-2 in the #1 slot, and Seraphina Vossen who's 5-3 as the #2. The duo is 5-3 in doubles and sets the pace for L&C who's posted a 25-21 singles record and 11-13 doubles record this season. The Pioneers are coached by Jimmy Chau who's in his sixth season as head coach of the program.

Looking ahead: Whitworth will hit the road to take on Willamette and Pacific on March 16-17.
