Dryden dominates series finale

HILLSBORO, Oregon – Hunter Dryden's pitching performance led Whitworth to a 5-2 win in the final game of a non-conference series against Corban on Sunday at Ron Tonkin Field.

Dryden (2-0) allowed only one run on three hits in 6.2 dominant innings.  He struck out nine Warriors.

The Pirates (3-4) scored first in the top of third when Austin Paul singled to score Jacob Doughty, who had tripled.

Paul's infield single drove in his second RBI and the Pirates added another run when Cameron Ley scored on a double play.

Brian Landon responded for the Warriors (3-3) in the bottom of the sixth, singling and then scoring on an error.

The Pirates answered immediately in the seventh. Aaron Clogston drove a single to center field to score Ley and Jacob Doughty.

The Warriors added a final run in the eighth on a Brad Kellofer sacrifice fly.

Whitworth's offense was captained by Doughty, who went 3-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Paul finished 2-4 with two RBI's.

Landon Shigeta pitched the final 2.1 innings for the Pirates.

The Bucs fly out next weekend to play four games in California. Whitworth will play against Redlands University on Friday night before a three-game series at California Lutheran University on Saturday and Sunday.
