Pirates Swept at LCSC

LEWISTON, Idaho—Lewis-Clark's offense surged behind Coy Stout's six RBIs, scoring twelve combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings to sweep a three-game series with visiting Whitworth 19-2.

The Warriors improve to 11-1, and the Pirates fall to 1-6.

Sam Linscott got things started in the first inning for the Warriors with a single up the middle that scored A.J. Davis. Justin Mazzone followed that up with a three-run home run to take an early 4-0 lead.

Neither team scored again until the fourth inning, when a walk and hit by pitch put Dawson Warner and JJ Fahnlander on base. Both runners scored on a Tim Gee double to cut the lead to 4-2.

Lewis-Clark responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Zach Threlfall advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a Riley Way single. Another Linscott single scored two runners to extend the lead 7-4.

Aidan Nagle scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning, starting a seven-run inning. Luke White doubled to score Nagle, and Stout singled up the middle to score White and Joe Canty. A three-run-bomb from Way capped off the inning to go up 14-2.

The Warriors finished the game by tacking on five more runs in the seventh inning. Jaden Phillips doubled down the left field line and scored Charlie Updegrave. Stout ended the scoring run with a grand slam to end the game 19-2.

Starter Austin Rice took the pitching loss for the Pirates, giving up three hits and four runs in 1.2 innings. Rice threw 33 pitches and struck out two batters.

Trent Sellers was the winning pitcher for Lewis-Clark, striking out eight batters and giving up only four hits and two earned runs in five innings.

The Pirates travel to Claremont, California next weekend to play a three-game series with Pomona-Pitzer. They play Friday at 2pm, and a Saturday doubleheader at noon and 3pm.
