PEORIA, Ariz. – Whitworth University opened the spring half of the 2025-26 women's golf schedule with an eighth-place finish at the prestigious Westbrook Village Invitational hosted by George Fox University.
Seven of the nine competing schools are ranked among the top 30 in the nation in their respective divisions.
The Pirates improved by 17 strokes from Saturday to Sunday to post a final team score of 326-309 – 625. The final team scores were: Claremont-M-S 571, Redlands 592, Trinity (Texas) 606, George Fox 607, Arizona Christian 608, Illinois Wesleyan 616, UC Santa Cruz 617, Whitworth 625, Centre (Ky.) 647.
Ashli Maki led the Pirate women with a 24th place finish (tie) after posting a score of 81-76 – 157. Jessie Kong of CMS was the medalist with a final score of 71-71 – 142 (E).
Stella Fergin (85-73 – 158) and Carolyn Rose (78-80 – 158) tied with two other players for 27th place. Fergin had the best single round score of the tournament for the Bucs. Erin Pierce (82-80 – 162) tied for 37th and Rosalind Nordberg (89-86 – 175) finished 49th.
Whitworth will return to action on March 28-29 when the Pirates compete at the UCSC Invitational in Pacific Grove, California.
