Men's tennis downs L&C 5-2 in third straight win

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's tennis squad continued its run of success with a 5-2 win over visiting Lewis & Clark on Saturday at sunny Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates (3-2 overall, 3-1 NWC) earned their third straight win and first over the River Otters (2-6, 2-2 NWC) since 2016.

The first two doubles matches resulted in a split, leaving the doubles point up to Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack in the No. 2 position. After trailing 4-1, the duo stormed back for a 7-6 win to secure the first point of the match.

Whitworth claimed four of six singles matches, two of which came in three sets. Ryan Ashley got things going with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 position. Connor Judson, who is now 4-0 against NWC opponents, followed with a 7-5, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 slot. Matthew Morrison clinched the victory for the Bucs with a competitive 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 win over Kaden Sigurdsson in the No. 1 singles position. Matt Hossack wrapped things up with a three-set win (6-2, 2-6, 6-1) of his own in the No. 6 spot.

Lewis & Clark's Noah Sutton and Wade McDermott claimed the two River Otters points with singles wins.

The Whitworth men will take their momentum into tomorrow's match against visiting George Fox at 11:00 am.
