2/25/2026 4:21:00 PM

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University will open its Northwest Conference baseball slate with a series at Puget Sound this weekend in Tacoma.  The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 am, and a single game on Sunday, also at 11 am.

Check the Whitworth baseball schedule for live links to his week's games.

Watch on FloCollege: Like the rest of the Northwest Conference, Whitworth's home athletic events will be steamed through FloCollege in 2025-26.  Fans can sign up to watch Pirate sports on the FloCollege portal.  Registration is $116 for an annual subscription or $20 per month.  Those who register with a .edu email address get a significant discount.

The Pirates: Whitworth went 2-2 during last week's trip to NCAA Div. II Saint Martin's.  The Pirates are now 4-7 overall this season.

As a team Whitworth is hitting 261 and has a team earned run average of 7.36.  The Pirates have played a very difficult opening schedule.  Whitworth opened the season at NAIA power Lewis-Clark State College, dropping both games of a double header.

A five-game trip to California followed, where the Bucs played four games against NCAA Div. III national powers Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne, along with a single game at Whittier.  Whitworth earned victories over both P-P and ULV.

Last weekend the Pirates split a four-game set at NCAA Div. II Saint Martin's.  They lost both games on Saturday but bounced back to win twice on Sunday.

Senior 1B Carson Coffield is off to a hot start offensively.  He is hitting .394, leading the team in home runs (3) and runs batted in (13).  Senior IF Kyle Memarian, the 2025 Northwest Conference Player of the Year, is batting .333, leading the Bucs in runs scored (12).

Junior RHP Dylan Huntsman is picking up where he left off in 2025 when he earned first team All-NWC.  He is 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA.  He has 11 strikeouts and only three walks in 14.0 innings.

The Opponents: Puget Sound comes into the weekend 7-1, all against opponents from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference.  The Loggers opened the season with a four-game sweep at Redlands.  Last weekend they took two of three games at Whittier and a single game at Chapman.

Junior OF Charlie Deggeller is leading the team in batting average (.474), while sophomore C/1B Matt Churchill supplies the power with three home runs and 12 RBIs.  Junior pitcher Evan Moll is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA.

Whitworth and Puget Sound played five times in 2025.  The Loggers won two of three games in the regular season series.  Puget Sound won again in the opener of the NWC tournament before the Pirates won the loser-out matchup on the way to winning the tournament championship.

Pirates Picked First: Whitworth is picked atop the 2026 NWC preseason coaches poll.  The Pirates return several key pieces from 2025 when they finished second in the regular season standings before winning the NWC tournament.  Whitworth picked up seven of nine possible first place votes and 63 total points in the poll.  Defending regular season champion Pacific (Ore.) is second with one first place vote and 54 points, while Puget Sound is third with a first place vote and 45 points.

The Coach: CJ Perry is now in his ninth season as the Pirates head coach and has a record of 149-152 through the 2025 schedule. He's led Whitworth to the NWC Tournament in four of his eight seasons, including a tournament championship in 2025. In 2019, coach Perry was named NWC Coach of the Year after guiding the Pirates to a 19-5 conference record (27-15 overall) and NWC regular season title. Perry is a Spokane native and graduated from Whitworth University in 2012.

Looking ahead: The Pirates will return to California for a four-game series at nationally-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
