SPOKANE, Wash. – Campbell Vincent and Kenzie Hemman combined for 12 of Whitworth's goals to lead the Pirates to a 21-6 victory over visiting Pacific University in a Northwest Conference women's lacrosse match on Sunday afternoon at the Pine Bowl.
Whitworth evened both its overall record (4-4) and its NWC mark (1-1). The Boxers dropped to 2-9, 0-3.
Fittingly Hemman and Vincent scored the first two goals of the match for the Pirates. Vincent finished with three goals in the first, while Hemman had a pair, to help Whitworth take a 7-3 lead through one period. Pacific took advantage of two player-up opportunities late in the first quarter to tally a pair of goals by Sarah Quade and Ellena Willingham.
The Pirates pulled away in the second, outscoring the Boxers 7-1. Hemman scored three of her goals in the period, including back-to-back goals five minutes into the quarter. Vincent's only goal of the second gave Whitworth a 14-4 lead at the break.
Vincent's goal to start the third established a running clock for the rest of the game. Vincent had two goals in the third as Whitworth outscored Pacific 5-1.
Hemman's final goal came in the match's final quarter, one in which the Pirates held a 2-1 scoring edge.
Vincent finished with nine points on six goals and three assists. She now has 31 goals this season. All three of her assists came on goals by Hemman, who increased her season total to 19. Megan Whitman and Kennison Turner scored three-times apiece for the Pirates. Whitman also had nine of Whitworth's 19 draw controls.
Sage Fosnock and Kayla Jones split time in goal for the Bucs. Fosnock made three saves and allowed four goals, while Jones stopped two shots and gave up two goals.
Cameron Cabuco came off the bench to lead the Boxers with two goals.
Whitworth outshot Pacific 37-15. The Pirates won 19 of the 30 draw controls and forced 29 Boxer turnovers while committing 17.
Whitworth will travel to Walla Walla to take on Whitman on Wednesday afternoon.
