SALEM, Ore. – The visiting Whitworth Pirates cruised to a 7-0 sweep over Willamette in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Sunday.
The Pirates moved back to even at 5-5 in the NWC (8-7 overall) while the Bearcats fell to 2-9 in conference.
The Bucs won each doubles match by a score of 6-3 to earn the first match point. Morgan McArthur competed in her second doubles match of the season alongside Paige Oliver in the No. 3 position.
Oliver, Audrey Judson, and Clara Todd clinched the match with three dominant wins to start the singles competition. Gracie Smyley earned her 10th singles win of the season with a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) victory. Faith Kert won her fifth consecutive singles match (7-6, 7-0) in the No. 2 position for her eighth win of the season. Olivia Corbett completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the sixth slot.
The Whitworth women will host their final two matches of the season when Linfield visits on April 5th and George Fox on April 6th.
