BELTON, Texas. – The Whitworth women's tennis team took down the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Yvonne Li Tennis Center.
The Pirates, now 7-6 overall, finished their spring break trip to Texas with three wins in as many days. The Crusaders fell to 5-6 on the season.
Whitworth swept the doubles matches, each by a score of 6-4. Morgan McArthur competed in her first doubles match of the season alongside Paige Oliver.
Gracie Smylie was awarded the first point of the match after her opponent withdrew while ahead 2-1 in the first set. Faith Kert secured the second singles match with a hard-fought 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win. Oliver and Clara Todd each battled to a third set, but neither came away with a victory. For the third straight day, the match was decided by Audrey Judson who took down her opponent 6-2, 7-5 from the No. 5 position. The Pirates have now won four consecutive matches heading back into Northwest Conference play.
Whitworth returns to conference action with a match at Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday and Willamette on Sunday.
