NEWBERG, Ore. – The Whitworth Pirates fell 6-1 to George Fox in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates, now 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the NWC, saw their two-match win streak come to an end while the Bruins moved to 5-1 and 4-1 in conference play.
Gracie Smyley and Faith Kert got a 6-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match, but George Fox was able to secure the doubles decision with wins in the next two pairings. Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett battled in the No. 3 match before a narrow 7-5 loss.
Smyley continued her standout senior season with another dominant win (6-1, 6-1) in the No. 1 singles match to secure a Whitworth point. She now has a 5-1 record in singles this season. Kert and Judson fought hard in their matches before each Pirate fell in a third set. The Bruins claimed the remaining three singles matches in two sets.
The Whitworth women return to Scotford Tennis Center to take on Lewis & Clark on March 8th and Puget Sound on March 9th.
