SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth Pirates fell 5-2 in the second non-conference women's tennis matchup against Lewis-Clark State College on Sunday morning at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Warriors (6-8 overall) earned their second win of the season over the Pirates, who fell to 4-6 overall (4-4 NWC).
Whitworth improved on its doubles results from the first match with LCSC. Gracie Smyley and Faith Kert took down the No. 1 Warrior pairing of Heidi Moyo and April Buckingham 6-4, who defeated the Pirate pair earlier this season. Oliva Corbett and Audrey Judson dominated the No. 3 match (6-0) to secure the first point of the match.
LCSC took five of six singles matches in two sets. Smyley earned the singles point for Whitworth with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 position. Kert battled to a narrow 7-5 first set loss, but could not spark a second set comeback.
The Pirates will travel to Texas for a three-match trip starting on March 24th against LeTourneau.
