LEWISTON, Idaho. – The visiting Whitworth University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday afternoon its first match of the spring season.
The Warriors (2-4) won all three doubles matches and five singles matches to secure the win.
Gracie Smyley and newcomer Faith Kert took on the top duo of LCSC and won three points to Heidi Moyo and April Buckingham's six. Clara Todd and Paige Oliver made up the second Whitworth doubles pairing and dropped their match 6-2. The #3 Pirate doubles pairing of Olivia Corbett and Audrey Judson battled to a close 6-4 defeat.
Lewis-Clark St. won each of their five singles matches in two sets. Smyley was the lone Pirate to come away with a singles victory as she defeated Rayana Shah 6-2, 6-3. Judson pushed each of her sets to seven points in a narrow 7-5, 7-5 loss in the #5 slot.
Whitworth opens Northwest Conference play against defending champion Whitman on February 15th at Scotford Tennis Center.
