SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University track & field teams made a splash at the 2025 Inland Northwest Invitational while competing against 14 other teams on Saturday at the Podium.
Eight Pirates posted season-best marks and 13 set new personal records.
Amblessed Okemgbo led the Pirate women and continued her outstanding start to the indoor season with a second-place finish in shot put. Her 13.99m mark now ranks third nationally in Division III.
Brianna Tira won the women's high jump with a new personal best and placed fourth in long jump. Tira's high jump mark of 1.67m ranks 11th nationally and 5.43m in long jump is now 38th.
Jordyn Lungo set a personal best 7.99 time in the 60m and earned her a fourth-place finish. Her time and ranks 34th national in Division III.
The lone win for the Whitworth men came from Tyler Eakin, who ran a 9:16.04 time in the 3,000m.
Jared McCrory and Andrew Strawn each threw a top-50 national mark of 4.51m in men's pole vault to place eighth and ninth. Their mark ranks 45th and 46th respectively.
Jumper Jayce Palm put up his personal record 6.27m in men's long jump, which landed him a ninth-place finish.
Both Pirate men's and women's "A" relay teams posted team best fifth place finishes in the 4x400m relay. The men posted a 3:31.74 time while the women ran 4:19.88.
Whitworth will compete in the three-day Riverfront Invitational starting on Thursday, February 6th at the Podium.
