SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's soccer team closed the 2025 home schedule with a 4-1 senior day win over visiting George Fox in Sunday's Northwest Conference match at Whitworth Soccer Field.
The Pirates' (3-6-8 overall, 3-5-6 NWC) four goals were a season high as they claimed the season series over the Bruins (0-11-7, 0-10-5 NWC).
Two-year senior captain Addison Dizard got the Bucs on the board in the 10th minute. Mac Lembcke sent a long through ball to the middle where Dizard fired it past the goalkeeper for her third goal of the season. George Fox answered less than three minutes later with a goal from Liv Haima. The Pirates had a chance to add on with a penalty kick, but Madison Carr's shot was saved by Marisa Lam.
Whitworth kept the pressure on and took the lead before halftime. Emma Ellerd drove to the front of net and flicked in her first goal of the season off a well-placed cross from Grace Hansen. The Bucs finished the first frame with a 12-5 advantage in shots.
A pair of Whitworth second half goals put the match out of reach. In the 56th minute, Kylee Russell drove past a defender to the goal line and dished it to Maia Santa Monica who put the Bucs up 3-1 with a shot into the left side of the net. Dizard headed in her second score of the contest following a free kick that was bobbled by Lam.
The Bucs finished with a season high in shots for a second straight match (22) and tied a season-high 10 shots on goal, a mark set on Saturday. GFU had eight shots and four on goal.
Nine Pirates had a shot on goal in a diverse Whitworth attack. Dizard led with five shots and two on goal. Paige Broadrick made three saves at goalkeeper.
Alexis Breer led the Bruins with three shots and two on goal. Lam made six saves in net.
The Pirate women close the 2025 season next weekend in Tacoma.
