Haley takes 9th; Pirate women 5th at Linfield XC Invite

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – London Haley posted a top-ten individual finish in the men's race, while the Whitworth women finished fifth as a team on Saturday at the Linfield University George Oja Invitational at Oak Knoll Golf Course.

Running the entire way with NCAA Division I and Division II competitors, Haley covered the eight-kilometer course in 24:09.9 and finished in ninth place.  Trinity Western's Yemane Mulugeta won the race with a time of 23:34.1.

Isaak Akiyama took 30th place and scored 23 points, crossing with a time of 24:41.5.  Whitworth had two of the top four finishers among Northwest Conference runners.

Whitworth finished eighth in the men's competition with 275 points.  Eastern Washington won with a score of 77, followed by Portland with 87 and Eastern Oregon with 136.  George Fox of the NWC was fourth (183).  There were 32 schools represented in the meet, including all nine conference schools.

Alex McIntyre finished 75th in 25:17.7, Tom McKee took 112th (25:50.3) and Nolan McLaughlin was 115th (25:51.8) to round out the Pirates' top-five.  There were 402 finishers in the race.

Whitworth's women finished fifth, only one spot behind George Fox.  The Pirates had 225 points while the Bruins scored 146.  Boise State (40) finished first, followed by Portland (59) and Eastern Washington (89).  There were 31 teams that scored in the meet, including all nine NWC schools.

Evergreen State's Alauna Carstens won the race with a time of 20:15.2 on the six-kilometer course.

Lily Jones led the way for the Pirates, taking 29th in 21:47.1, while Kezlie Thygessen was 40th in 22:03.2 and Ashlyn Dary was 60th in 22:28.3.  Bethany Doggett followed in 67th (22:35.6) and Madylyn Danaraj rounded out the top five in 118th (23:19.7) with Hannah Higens 119th (23:20.1).

Whitworth will now turn its attention to the 2025 NWC Championships, which will take place on November 1st at Pacific Lutheran University.
