Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women's tennis won its second straight match, knocking off Puget Sound 7-2 in a non-conference match on Sunday at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates (2-3) took two of three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to close in on a perfect home weekend.
Whitworth's #2 doubles team of Natalie Budge and Libertad Sarmiento were dominant in an 8-1 win over UPS's Hyla Chatham and Marissa Perez. The #3 duo of Morgan McArthur and Olivia Corbett were convincing in their 8-3 win.
Gracie Smyley won her singles match over the Loggers #1 Kaylee Yamada 7-5, 6-3. #2 Oliver Paige was dominant over Perez winning in two sets 6-0, 6-0. #3 Audrey Judson took care of Chatham 6-0, 6-1 to seal the win for the Pirates.
#5 Sarmiento won convincingly, beating Sarah Kaczmarek 6-1, 6-3. Corbett was credited with the walkover win to give Whitworth the 7-2 win.
Whitworth travels to Tacoma to take on Puget Sound (0-5) on Friday, February 23. That match will be counted towards the Pirates' conference record.
