SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth Pirates look to continue their winning ways when they visit Willamette on Saturday and Lewis & Clark on Sunday. Each match is set to begin at 1:45pm.

The Pirates: Whitworth moved to 9-4-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the Northwest Conference after earning two wins last week. The Pirates are now tied with Puget Sound for second place in the NWC standings with 23 points.
Whitworth held on to a 1-0 win at Whitman on Wednesday. Yacine Bitibale scored the lone goal for the Pirates in the 77th minute for her sixth goal of the season. The Blues showed consistent offensive pressure with a 9-4 advantage in shots-on goal and eight corner kicks but could not capitalize. Anna Boyer made nine saves for the Bucs.
The Pirates secured a 1-0 victory over Linfield on Saturday in Spokane. Whitworth played strong defense and held the Wildcats to zero total shots in the first half. Baylee Trejo broke the tie in the 69th minute, scoring her fifth goal of the season. The Pirates outshot Linfield 13-4 and had a 7-2 advantage in shots on-goal.
Whitworth has now won four straight matches for the second time in as many seasons.
NWC Standings Update: Pacific Lutheran remains in first place in the NWC standings, now with 32 points and a 10-0-2 conference record. Puget Sound (6-1-5) is now tied with Whitworth (7-3-2) for second place with 23 points each. Willamette (5-4-3) is in fourth place with Whitman (5-4-2) close behind in fifth. There is drop off to sixth place.
The Opponents: Willamette comes into the week 6-5-5 overall and 5-4-3 in the NWC. The Bearcats played to a draw at George Fox on Saturday and are looking for their first win since October 16th. Senior forward Nina Krassner-Cybulski leads the offensive attack with eight goals on the season. Willamette defeated Whitworth 3-0 in their first meeting on October 6th.
Lewis & Clark sits a 4-9-2 overall and 2-8-1 in the NWC after two losses last weekend. The Pioneers have lost four straight matches after falling to Puget Sound 3-2 on Saturday and Pacific Lutheran 3-1 on Sunday. Opponents have outscored Lewis & Clark 30-22 on the season. Senior forward Celeste Schreifels is tied for first in the NWC with ten goals on the season. Whitworth took down the Pioneers 1-0 on Oct 5th.
The Coach: Whitworth soccer alum Cameron Bushey is in his third season as head coach of the women's soccer team. The Pirates followed up a 6-8-5 record during his first year in 2022 with a 9-6-5 mark (9-5-2 NWC) last season.
Bushey came from Stanislaus State, where he was the top assistant coach. Bushey has club coaching stints in Spokane and Colorado and he was an assistant at Gonzaga University for two seasons (2018-19). He graduated from Whitworth in 2012 as a four-time All-NWC honoree who helped lead the Pirates to three NWC titles and NCAA Division III tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009.
