FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Whitworth women's soccer team broke through with a 3-1 win at Pacific University on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates broke an 0-2-1 skid to improve to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the NWC. The Boxers dropped to 1-10-3, 1-8-1.
Baylee Trejo got Whitworth on the board in the ninth minute with her second goal of the season, assisted by Bekah Hines. Trejo made it 2-0 25 minutes later from an assist by Taliya Miyama.
Pacific pulled within 2-1 in the 65th minute on a goal by Mirella Garcia. But Yacine Bititale ended the comeback attempt only three minutes later, scoring her fourth goal of the season.
Whitworth only had an 8-7 edge in shots, 5-3 in shots on-goal. Paige Broadrick made two saves for the Pirates.
Whitworth will return to action at George Fox on Sunday afternoon.
