TACOMA, Wash. — Whitworth went on the road Saturday to visit Puget Sound in a hard-fought women's soccer match that ended as a 1-1 draw between the Northwest Conference foes.
Both teams went scoreless heading into the 83rd minute before Puget Sound broke through with a goal by Emily O'Neil. The Loggers (4-4-3, 4-1-2 NWC) stifled the Pirates offense and had been applying pressure all game as they outshot the Bucs (5-3-2, 3-2-2 NWC) 18-5 and 9-1 shots on goal.
Whitworth was able to tie the game just four minutes later in the 87th minute after a free kick from Katherine Kent was headed into the net by a Logger defender for an own goal.
Whitworth keeper Anna Boyer was outstanding, finishing with eight saves on the day.
The Pirates will look to get back into the win column as they head to Pacific Lutheran to take on the Lutes tomorrow at 2:45 pm. PLU (7-1-3, 6-0-1) is currently leading the NWC and is on a six-game winning streak since opening conference play with a draw against Willamette.
