McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Whitworth's softball season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to Pacific Lutheran in a loser-out game on Saturday at the 2023 Northwest Conference tournament.
The Pirates (23-19) were unable to score in either game at the tournament and were the first team eliminated. PLU (27-15) advances to play host Linfield in another loser-out game later on Saturday.
The Lutes scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Erin McGrath and Rylie Wada had back-to-back RBI singles and the third run scored on a ground out to second base. PLU's final run came in the top of the sixth when Mari Foster drilled a two-out RBI triple.
Whitworth had the bases loaded in the third and runners on first and third in the fourth, but could not get the big two-out hit to score a run.
