FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth built a four-run lead in the top of the fifth inning and held on for a 6-5 win at Pacific (Ore.) in the completion of a Northwest Conference softball game that was suspended on March 5th.
The Pirates (14-10 overall, 6-6 NWC) will play a four-game series against Willamette over the weekend at Stayton High School in Stayton Oregon.
The game resumed in the top of the fifth with the score tied 2-2. The Pirates loaded the bases with no outs on two singles and an error. Reagan Ellis doubled in the first two runs. Jazz Johnson scored on a ground out by Kelly Hruza and Kennedy Robison drove in Ellis with a single for a 6-2 lead.
The Boxers (4-18, 2-12) got one run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double from Alexis Carter. They scored two more in the bottom of the seventh before Corinne Vasiloff struck out Samantha Madsen to end the game with the tying run on second base.
Robison finished the game 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Ellis led the team with two RBIs. No other Pirate had more than one hit.
Momi Lyman started the game on March 5th, but Vasiloff (9-4) pitched the final three innings for the win. Lindsey Greenfield (1-8) took the loss for the Boxers after allowing six runs (four earned) in five innings.
