SPOKANE, Wash. – Emmy Moore kicked off senior day with a 29th minute goal as Whitworth beat visiting Linfield 1-0 on Saturday to complete a season sweep of the 'Cats.
Prior to kickoff, the Pirates honored graduating seniors Laura Pierson, Kate Nelson, Faith Rempfer, Jessica Deegan, and Emmy Moore. The class of 2024 made their presence felt, handing Linfield its third consecutive loss.
On a 29th minute Pirate corner, Addison Dizard lifted a pass into Kylee Russell whose header found Moore for the game's first goal. The score was initially nullified for offside, but after a brief meeting between referees the call was reversed. Moore leads the team with four goals this season.
Whitworth (7-6-4 overall, 7-5-1 NWC) outshot Linfield (5-6-6 overall, 3-5-5 NWC) 13-4 and 7-1 in shots on goal, controlling 64% of the possession.
Senior Kate Nelson racked up her 24th career shutout in her second-to-last home game, tying Stacey Roberts for the third most shutouts in program history.
Linfield was neutralized for much of the match, but in the 85th minute Kamahie Samudio set up a scoring chance for Jocelyn Jacobs with a brilliant pass, but Jacobs was not able to connect and pull off the late equalizer.
With the win, Whitworth remains a point behind Whitman for third place in the conference. Whitworth will host Willamette on Sunday while Linfield travels to take on Whitman.
