Pirate Offense Stalls in loss to Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth's offense never got going in a 13-5 loss at Puget Sound on Saturday in a Northwest Conference women's lacrosse match.

The Pirates (5-9 overall, 3-7 NWC) got a pair of goals by Kenzie Hemman, but little else against the Loggers (8-4, 6-4).

Puget Sound outscored Whitworth 3-0 in the first.  Abby Stranahan had two of those goals.  Anna Chase got Whitworth on the board with the first goal of the second quarter.  But the Loggers scored the next three for a 6-1 lead.  Stranahan had two of those second period goals as well.

UPS scored the first three goals of the third to stretch the advantage to 9-1.  Hannah Bushing scored twice in the third.  Liliann Penfield broke the drought for the Pirates with the final goal of the third period.

Hemman scored twice in the final quarter and Madison Perry tallied the final goal for the Pirates.  But the Loggers scored four of their own in the period, including one more by Bushing.

UPS outshot Whitworth 30-18.  The Pirates turned over possession 23 times, to 17 for the Loggers.

Whitworth will finish the season at home next weekend with matches against George Fox and Linfield.
