Pirate women close with 1-0 shutout over Wildcats

SPOKANE, Wash.— The Whitworth Pirates shutout the visiting Linfield Wildcats 1-0 in their final Northwest Conference women's soccer match of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates finish the 2022 season 6-8-5 overall and 6-6-4 in the NWC while the Wildcats end 5-7-7, 3-6-6. 

Whitworth and Linfield battled the first forty-five minutes to keep the match scoreless at the half.

In the 48th minute, Whitworth's Savannah Acpal connected with senior forward Kendall Sharp who scored the match-winning goal.

The Pirates outshot the Wildcats 10-7 in total shots and 5-2 in shots on goal.

Pirate goalkeeper Kate Nelson had two saves in 90 minutes played. Alexa Fritz had four for the Wildcats. 

The Pirates swept the season series against the Wildcats with a combined score of 4-0.
