Box Score TACOMA, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran Lutes beat the visiting Whitworth University Pirates 2-1 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
Whitworth (5-8-4, 5-6-3 NWC ) was competitive with league-leading Pacific Lutheran (15-1-2, 12-1-1 NWC) the entire match but the Lutes were able to find the back of the net late to steal a victory.
Baylee Trejo scored in the seventh minute to put the Pirates up early over the Lutes.
Taliya Miyama was credited with the assist.
Pacific Lutheran quickly found the equalizer in the eighth minute when
Ellie Reardon found
Julia Causbie who scored her ninth goal of the season.
The match remained a defensive battle until
Lily Dose broke away and scored in the 79th minute to lift the Lutes over the Pirates 2-1.
The Lutes outshot the Pirates 15-8 in total shots and 8-5 in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper
Kate Nelson had five saves in 90 minutes played for the Pirates.
Shaylin Cesar had four for the Lutes.
The Lutes swept the Pirates in two matches this season with a combined score of 4-2.
The Pirates will play next against Whitman on Wednesday at 5:00 PM.
