NEWBERG, Ore.— The visiting Whitworth Pirates fell to the George Fox Bruins 3-0 in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
Whitworth (8-8-2, 5-6-1 NWC) was not able to find a way to score despite outshooting George Fox (4-9-3, 2-6-3 NWC) in total shot attempts 17-7. The Bruins edged the Pirates in shots on goal 6-5.
George Fox scored first in the eighth minute after
Joshua Chang passed to
Eugene Peltier who found the lower right corner of the net.
A penalty kick taken by
Jeff Friedman in the 46th minute extended the Bruin's lead 2-0.
Joshua Chang scored the final goal for the Bruins in the 75th minute, finding the upper left corner.
Whitworth's best scoring opportunities came in the second half but attempts didn't get past George Fox's
Cade Matsumoto.
Pirate goalkeeper
Aiden Chase had three saves in 90 minutes played.
Matsumoto had five for the Bruins.
Whitworth will play their last road game of the season against Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
