SPOKANE, Wash. – Gabriella Coprivnicar came off the bench to score two goals and add an assist, leading Whitworth to a 4-0 win over visiting Edgewood in a non-conference women's soccer match late Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates improved to 2-0 while the Eagles fell to 0-3.
Kate Nelson picked up her first shutout as Whitworth's goalkeeper, but she didn't have to make a save as the Pirate defense did not allow a shot on goal. More impressively, she was credited with an assist on Coprivnicar's second goal.
Maggie Ames scored the Bucs' first goal in the 25th minute after Coprivnicar drove down the left side and crossed to Ames for an open shot.
Coprivnicar did it herself one minute later, scoring from outside the box with a hard shot to the upper-right corner after she had worked through the Edgewood defense.
Coprivnicar's second goal came in the 44th minute after Nelson sent a long drop kick that cleared most of the Eagle players. Coprivnicar ran under the bouncing ball, outdueled the last defender for possession and took two dribbles past Edgewood keeper Grace Wildeboer for score.
Macy Morales scored in the opening minute of the second half on an assist from Emma Foulk for Whitworth's final goal of the match.
The Pirates outshot the Eagles 11-3, including a 7-0 edge in shots on goal. The Pirates dominated possession (62% - 38%) and doubled the visitors on corner kicks (8-4).
Whitworth will hit the road for a pair of matches in Minnesota this coming week at Hamline (Sept. 9) and at Bethel (Sept. 11).
