TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth University handed the University of Puget Sound its first blemish to its women's soccer record by playing the Loggers to a 0-0 tie on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates are now 3-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the NWC while the Loggers are 5-0-1, 1-0-1. Kate Nelson made seven saves to keep the Bucs tied with the Loggers.
Puget Sound controlled the first half, outshooting Whitworth 5-1, including a 3-0 edge in shots on-goal. But the Pirates found their footing during the second 45 minutes, outshooting the Loggers 6-4, including a 3-1 advantage in on-target attempts.
Whitworth had to withstand heavy pressure in the overtime periods, but Nelson was up to the task, making three saves.
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Whitman College at 4:00 pm.
