Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth University scored three goals in each half, but the Pirates could not prevent Willamette from finding the net and the Bearcats defeated the Pirates 19-6 in a Northwest Conference women's lacrosse match on Sunday.
Willamette swept both matches on the weekend and improved to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the NWC. The Bucs dropped to 0-4, 0-4.
Madison Perry established a season-high for Whitworth with three goals. She also had an assist. Abby Hahn, Trinity Frank and Kylee Walker also scored for the Pirates. Walker had two assists, also a season-high for Whitworth.
Laura Kelly led Willamette with five goals, while Maddie Garcia and Catie Kawamura both had four goals for the second game in a row. Kawamura dished three assists.
Willamette jumped ahead 6-1 before Frank and Perry scored to pull the Pirates within 7-3. The Bearcats took a 9-3 lead into halftime.
Willamette scored the first six goals of the second half to pull out to a 15-3 lead.
Whitworth returns home to host NWC-leading George Fox next weekend in the final two home matches of the season for the Pirates.
