Box Score 2 SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University got a pair of victories in women's tennis in Tacoma over the weekend. Though both matches were non-conference contests against Northwest Conference opponents, they bode well for the Pirates once league play starts.
Whitworth defeated Pacific Lutheran 9-0 on Saturday. Erica Lee and Avery Liening rolled to an 8-0 win at #1 doubles, sparking a 3-0 doubles sweep for the Pirates. Lee went on to defeat Sydney Cameron 6-4, 6-2 at #1 singles, while Leining won 6-2, 6-4 over Bayley Gochanour at #2 singles. Aleah Kert rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles.
Whitworth defeated Puget Sound 7-2 on Sunday. The Loggers knocked the Pirates out of a spot in the NWC tournament in 2019 with a 7-2 win over the Bucs. Once again Whitworth swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Kyndal Locati and Hannah Plank combined to win 8-3 at #3 doubles for the Pirates. Jill Hughes won 6-2, 7-6 over Lia Van Steeter at #4 singles and Locati defeated Zoe Love by an identical score at #5 singles.
Whitworth will play at defending champion Whitman on Saturday, then will host Lewis-Clark State College on Sunday.
