PARKLAND, Wash. – Whitworth University earned its third straight Northwest Conference women's tennis victory with a 9-0 win at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates improved to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the NWC while the Lutes dropped to 1-8, 1-7.
Whitworth got all three points in doubles play. Two ended quickly as Bella Hoyos and Jennifer Adams rolled to an 8-1 win at #1 doubles and Emma Jo Wiley and Erica Lee won by the same score at #2. Paige Rorhbach and Emily Sandquist pulled out an 8-5 win over Emily Bower and Ingrid Erickson at #3 doubles.
Lee increased the lead to 4-0 when she posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Lauren Kearney at #4 singles. Hoyos then clinched the team win for the Bucs with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Caroline Dreher at #1 singles. Wiley came away with the closest win of the day, earning a 7-6 (7), 7-5 decision over Bower at #2 singles.
Whitworth will continue its trip to the Tacoma area with a match at Puget Sound on Sunday.
