Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Host Saint Benedict defeated Whitworth 2-0 in a women's non-conference soccer match on Friday. The Blazers scored both of their goals in the first half.
Whitworth controlled the first minutes of the game outshooting Saint Benedict five to zero. The Blazers effectively countered when Jenna Kleason headed in a corner kick off of the foot of Olivia Musser for the first goal of the game in the 14th minute. Jess Trossen then found Taylor Hedin in the 26th minute for Saint Benedict's second goal.
The Blazers successfully controlled the play of the game throughout the second half making it impossible for the Pirates to mount a comeback.
Whitworth had eight shots, seven of which were in the first half. The Pirates matched the Blazers overall in shots on goal with six.
Sienna Tanner played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Pirates and had four saves.
GK Heather Kaluzniak had six saves for Saint Benedict.
Whitworth will head to Helena, Mont. on Sept. 10 to face Rocky Mountain (Mont.) and Carroll (Mont.) at Carroll Saturday and Sunday.
