Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. - Pacific Lutheran scored late in each half and Whitworth was held scoreless for the third consecutive match with a 2-0 loss to the Lutes on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
Pacific Lutheran (8-1-1, 4-1-1 NWC) extended its win streak to four matches with its eighth shutout of the season against Whitworth (5-6-0, 3-4-0).
Ashley Mindnich gave Pacific Lutheran the lead in the 40th minute, scoring in a crowded box off a corner kick from the right corner by Krista Morford. The Lutes appeared to have also scored on a corner kick earlier in the half during the 26th minute, but the play was negated by an offside call.
The Pirates were whistled for a foul in the 18-yard box during the 50th minute, but Whitworth goalkeeper Andrea Stump made a diving save to her left on a penalty kick attempt from Pacific Lutheran's Kelly White to keep the deficit at one goal.
The Lutes eventually doubled the lead in the 89th minute when Jamie Hoffman scored from nine yards away off a short pass crossed in front of the goal from the left side by Kelsey Hathaway.
The Pirates surrendered more than one goal in a match for only the second time in 2015. The Lutes totaled 15 shots in the match and put five shots on goal. Pacific Lutheran also hit the post on two occasions with shot attempts in the match.
The Pirates generated 10 shots with four shots on goal. Whitworth narrowly missed scoring in the 62nd minute when Hannah Bokma sent a long pass upfield to Brooke Morrow, but Morrow's header volley was just wide of the right post.
Stump totaled three saves in the match. Reigning NWC Defensive Player of the Year Takara Mitsui made four saves for the Lutes.
The Pirates will play the first of four consecutive road contests next weekend, traveling to Lewis & Clark for a match at noon on Saturday, Oct. 10.
