Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitworth women's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie after two overtime periods at Whitman on Wednesday night in the first of three road matches for the Pirates during the week.
Whitworth (5-7-1, 3-5-1 Northwest Conference) came away with a draw result for the first time since the season-opening match of the 2014 season. Whitman (1-8-4, 1-4-4) tied its third match in a row.
Andrea Stump collected a season-high nine saves as Whitworth recorded its fifth shutout of the season and snapped a four-match losing skid.
Whitman held a slight 21-18 shot advantage in the match, and put nine shots on goal compared with five shots on target for the Pirates. The Missionaries produced 12 of their shots during the second half alone, forcing Stump to make six saves during the half.
Morgan Howe, Tiara Pajimola, Megan McCart, Brooke Morrow and Arielle Van Peursem each totaled one shot on goal for Whitworth. Haley Case made fives saves for the Missionaries.
A shot from Lindsey Foster hit the crossbar early in the first overtime period and each team had one shot on goal during the first overtime period. Neither defense allowed a shot on goal during the second overtime.
The teams generated just two corner kick chances apiece, with Whitman totaling one corner kick in each half and the Pirates tallying one corner kick in each overtime period.
The physical match featured a combined 39 fouls between the teams with 22 committed by Whitworth and 17 by Whitman.
The Pirates travel to Oregon over the weekend to face George Fox and Pacific (Ore.). Whitworth will play at noon on Saturday against George Fox before traveling to face Pacific at noon on Sunday.
