Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Tiara Pajimola's sixth goal of the season lifted visiting Whitworth to a 1-0 win over Willamette in Northwest Conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates improved to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NWC. The Bearcats dropped to 2-5, 0-3.
After the teams played to a scoreless first half, Pajimola gave Whitworth the lead when she scored on a breakaway in the 63rd minute, working around a defender and beating Willamette keeper Nicole Price from eight yards out. Pajimola's goal is her sixth of the season.
The Pirates were content to let the Bearcats take long-distance shots throughout the match. So despite the fact that Willamette held a seemingly large 16-6 edge in total shots, Whitworth keeper Andrea Stump only had to make two saves. Both came in the second half as the Pirates held on for a road victory.
Whitworth returns home to host league-leading Linfield next Saturday and Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday in a pair of NWC contests.
