Whitworth Blanks George Fox 1-0

Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash. – Kristin Wucherer's second goal of the season helped Whitworth break a four-match winless streak with a 1-0 win over visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday.

The Pirates improved to 6-5-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the NWC.  The Bruins dropped to 3-7-1, 1-5-1.

George Fox goalkeeper Alyssa Montero kept the match scoreless in the first half by making four saves, two of which were point-blank stops on shots by Whitworth's Tiara Pajimola.

Montero made four more saves in the second half, including another difficult save on Pajimola's breakaway that kept GFU within one goal.

The Pirates got on the board in the 49th minute.  Jackie Day slotted a perfect pass across the penalty area to Wucherer, who was charging in from the right side.  Wucherer took one touch, then fired into the opposite corner of the net.

Whitworth goal keeper Andrea Stump only had to make two saves to post her fourth shutout of the season.  The Pirate defense kept the clamps on the Bruins' offense throughout the match.  Whitworth finished with an 18-2 edge in total shots, 9-2 in shots on-goal.

George Fox travels to play at Whitman College tomorrow afternoon.

Whitworth returns to action next weekend when the Pirates host Puget Sound (Saturday) and Pacific Lutheran (Sunday).
