Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitworth women's soccer team (0-3, 0-1) fought back at every turn during their match this afternoon at Whitman College but it wasn't enough.
The two squads traded goals throughout the match but the Missionaries (2-2, 1-0) won on a goal by Allie Swan with forty seconds left to go on the pitch.
Whitworth's Jill Pecka (Fr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) scored her second goal on the year at the 37 minute mark in response to Whitman's Amy Hasson's header goal just one minute prior.
In similar fashion, the Missionaries put the ball in the back of the net in the beginnig of the second period with a goal by Helen Brown. The game was brought to a draw when the Pirates' Allie Smith (Sr., F, Missoula, Mont.) scored for the first time in 2011 with an assist by Sara Berentson (Sr., F, Burlington, Wash.).
With forty seconds to go, just within sights of overtime, Whitman's Hallie Swan took the victory from Whitworth. The sophomore midfielder sent a left-footed kick into the far corner of the goal, out of reach of Whitworth's Callie Bergstrom (Sr., GK, Spokane, Wash.).
The Pirates will continue conference on the road this weekend. They will play at Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday afternoon and at George Fox the next day.
