Whitworth University

Megan Thompson Aquatic Center

Originally dedicated in 1985, the Megan E. Thompson Aquatic Center is home to Whitworth’s men’s and women’s swimming teams. The center has hosted the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) championships, the Northwest Conference championships and numerous other regional competitions. It was originally completed in the spring of 1985. But, thanks in part to a generous donation from Whitworth trustee Kevin Thompson and his wife, Patti, it now has a completely new look. The pool is dedicated to Thompsons’ daughter, Megan ’18, who recipient of the Aaron Leetch Inspiration Award, which honors graduating seniors who embody inspiration, passion, perseverance and dedication to their sport.

The $1.5 million renovation project included new floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for natural light, a resurfaced pool deck, a new HVAC system that provides increased ventilation and improvements to the coaches’ offices.

The center features a beautiful 40-yard lap pool with a bulkhead dividing the pool into a 6-lane 25 yard lap pool and a large shallow end accessible by a ramp for entry. The pool's temperature is maintained at 81-83 degrees during the varsity swim team season; this is an ideal temperature for a workout facility. Our pool is available to the community for a variety of fitness, water-safety, and learn-to-swim programs.
